Choosing the Adoption Option
Why Adopt?
Over the last decade, the number of people adopting cats and dogs from animal shelters and rescue groups has doubled – a sure sign that the feel-good factor that comes with saving a life is gaining great appeal!
When you adopt from Fresh Start Rescue, you're not only saving one life; you free up a foster home to take in another cat or dog in need – very often one who is running out of options in a shelter or pound!
But please remember that adding a new pet to your family is a decision that should be made with much consideration and care. Dogs and cats are not toys or something to keep you ammused until it's time to move, have a baby or you don't feel like exercising anymore - they're living creatures who are dependant on you to give them a happy, healthy life.
We have many loving pets of all shapes and sizes at Fresh Start Rescue, each waiting for their perfect forever home to come along. This is something we pride ourselves on - finding the very best home for them and not stopping until we do! Each and every little life saved is important to us - they are kept in loving homes, treated like members of the family and given the best care and veterinary treatment available. They are not a monetary amount to be sold and replaced, and they aren't rehomed on a "first in, first served" basis.
Our application process helps us find the right home for each one of our rescue animals. This is not just for the animals wellbeing, but to ensure the happiness of the family opening their hearts and homes to a new pet. At Fresh Start Rescue we want your experience to be the best it can be, both during the application process, and also with your new family member at home.
How Do I Apply?
To apply for any of our animals, please fill in our pre-adoption questionnaire - we now have one for dogs and a separate form for cats! This is not an obligation to adopt, but allows us to gather some basic information about your family, home and lifestyle.
Once your application has been submitted, a Fresh Start Rescue co-orindinator will be in touch to discuss your application. We thoroughly screen all of our applications to help our carers find the best possible forever home for their foster pet, therefore we may need to ask you for more information at this time.
Your application will then be forwarded to the dog or cat's foster carer who will contact you to arrange a meet and greet. For dogs this can take place at a mutually agreed upon location like a fenced off-leash dog park. If you have a dog of your own, this can be a great opportunity to gauge whether they would
make suitable companions.
If you are chosen as a suitable adopter, we ask that you allow a FSR volunteer to do
a check of your yard, fencing and where your new family member will sleep, etc.
If you have any questions at all, please feel free to contact us.
